Increase your conversion rate with a simple exit intent strategy

What was the project?

Our task, in this case, was to create an exit-intent campaign for Fels. si.

Who was the client?

The client was Franček Kramer s.p., an online bicycle store.

What is the exit-intent campaign?

The exit-intent campaign doesn’t allow you to lose your website visitors and potential clients without taking any action. Basically, this is your last opportunity to engage with your visitors and convert them into email subscribers. So, how does it work?

First of all, it’s important to keep in mind the actions of your site visitors. Using data from visitor actions, you can determine when a customer is about to leave your site (where visitors move their cursors, how far they scroll through a page, how long they remain idle on a page, etc).

Then exit-intent campaign popup shows up. It appears right before the visitor clicks on a different app or when he wants to close the browser asking for his email address and offering something in exchange. Usually, those strategies include coupons, promo codes, free ebooks, and similar.

To sum it up, when you use exit intent, your email list expands and your conversion rates increase. That means your digital marketing ROI improves.

Who was the digital marketing specialist (project manager)?

The brain of the operation was our digital marketing specialist – Uroš Vidali. His over-a-decade experience in exit-intent and similar campaigns made this project so successful.

What were the goals?

The project had two main key goals:

  1. Optimizing paid advertising;
  2. Sales promotion.

What was the challenge?

Usually, when we browse the web, we are confronted with websites where pop-ups are implemented in a completely incorrect way.

Often they are triggered all over the place and, therefore, are annoying and tiring for visitors. On the other hand, we encounter sites where pop-ups are virtually non-existent. We wanted to avoid those common mistakes.

The goal was to integrate the solution in such a way that the windows are triggered at the right time, in the right place, and in a useful way. Of course, their communication needed to be relevant to users, creating instant added value.

Generally speaking, there are many ways to use pop-ups:

  • Increasing user engagement
  • Increasing the number of subscribers to e-news
  • Increasing the number of potential customers
  • Sales promotion
  • Reducing the number of abandoned baskets/cash registers

So, how did we do it?

We placed an exit-intent pop-up window on the online store. A pop-up window is triggered only if a visitor wants to leave the store without making a purchase.

A pop-up window with a 15% discount and a promotional code was offered to every website visitor. With the help of these, we motivated them to make a purchase and that’s our final goal.

In this way, we optimized our advertising resources.

Conclusion

If you have a lot of traffic on your website or online store but poor conversion, and you want to optimize your traffic and advertising resources, we definitely recommend the exit-intent pop-up campaign. This cost-effective tool should be one of the first to consider.

Tip: make sure that the windows are triggered at the right time, in the right place, and that their communication is relevant to users, including instant added value.
